A Minimalist Statement or Just Pantonedeaf? The Hue Named 'Cloud Dancer' Chosen as Pantone's Color for 2026.

Hi there! I'm incredibly excited to learn what color is set to be 2026. Tell me everything!

Prepare yourself, as every year for over two decades, Pantone selects a Color of the Year. This selection is a reflection of the spirit of the times—shaping everything from our emotions and our wardrobe selections to home decor. 2025's hue was the deep beige "a coffee-inspired shade," following the gentle and peachy "Peach Fuzz."

The new choice, in contrast, is somewhat unexpected. It is "a billowy white," described by a "soft and structural white."

Laurie Pressman, vice-president of the Pantone Color Institute, remarked that it is "a pivotal neutral tone … permitting all colors to shine."

Hmm, Cloud Dancer… seriously, white? Is this a prank? Is white even a real color?

Can you even describe the color of clouds? A blank page? Although some consider white as a color, the entire spectrum is essentially a spectrum of light waves. It's present in a child's crayon box, so in everyday terms the answer is yes.

The question of whether Pantone is out of touch is harder to determine. The company states, Cloud Dancer mixes well with other colors, isn't overstimulating, makes a minimalist statement, and exudes quiet sophistication.

Feedback online, however, has proven more critical. Several voices have declared Pantone of being completely "Pantonedeaf." Style expert Mandy Lee described it as "a let-down." Some have even drawn parallels to coded promotion of problematic concepts seen in other media.

Right, it's to be hoped they're cheerfully oblivious that the timing is awkward to be pointedly celebrating whiteness... Anyway, how might someone not exactly adjacent to a catwalk incorporate this information in my world? I recently coated my ceiling with white, does that qualify?

That definitely qualifies. So would your wireless speakers, bathtub, or linen sheets.

The timing is curious you mention runways, since many recent shows have been bold and fuzzy, featuring plant-based fabrics on the stage.

The color white featured prominently, like always, in luxury shows—from simple silk T-shirts to sleek suits. Well-known individuals have also been seen in crisp all-white outfits at public appearances.

The good news is: chances are you already own something in this "subtle" color of the year. As Pressman, Cloud Dancer "signifies a greener option for the eco-conscious," which might translate to avoiding the need to purchase new items at all.

FINALLY, a design directive for the deeply unmotivated. An empty canvas, so to speak. A sanctuary of calming neutrality against the clutter. I'm convinced, I'm on board. Are you planning a monochrome palette for your personal style?

Definitely not. Attempting to remove tomato sauce stains from a white shirt? I'm not seeking extra stain-removal drama in 2026.

I do have a pair of once-white comfort shoes, and those never go out of style.
