Colts Face Falcons in German Capital – NFL Week 10

Hello, football fans. Wie gehts? Everything good I hope on this excellent morning kickoff to the tenth week coming directly from Germany. The Olympiastadion in Berlin to be exact where at 9:30 AM EST and 2:30 PM GMT the powerful Indianapolis Colts (7-2) face off against the Falcons (3-5). The fifth game played on soil in Germany and the first in the capital city.

Pregame Key Moments

As sparkly jackets go that is an absolute belter from the Olympic figure skater on the coin toss. A slight fluff from Sky Sports there as we hear “which team got the coin flip?” from the presenter with an unfortunately hot mic.

So, the coin toss went to Indianapolis and have chosen to get the ball first. Daniel Jones and company will be taking the field soon. Will the QB bounce back after a rough one in Pittsburgh?

In a similar vein the singer belting out the Star Spangled Banner has some of the largest shoulder pads you are bound to notice. Loving the sartorial choices today. The game is about to start after a choral number for the national anthem of Germany. Classy.

Opening Period Gameplay

Colts 0-0 Falcons 13:30, 1st quarter

And we're off! And we have early drama after the Colts running back catches a screen pass, gains 15 yards on the outside to the right then fumbles … only for his center to recover the fumble with the ball retrieval. Indianapolis quickly moves into Atlanta's half.

Colts 0-0 Falcons 10:51, 1st quarter

And the excitement continues as the Indianapolis attempts a fourth-down conversion. The risk doesn't work out as Josh Downs cannot reel in a quick pass from the quarterback. Prior to the failed attempt the Falcons defender put a huge hit on the Colts' tight end. Atlanta's defense started strong as they attempt to end their three-game losing streak. Next up Sauce Garner’s debut!

Score Recap

TOUCHDOWN! Colts 6-0 Falcons 8:36, 1st quarter

Did Kyle Pitts just drop a touchdown? The tight end drops a clanger, he was very open but the ball just slips through his grasp. That play rather sums up the high draft pick's professional journey to date.

A disappointing start but it only deteriorates for the Atlanta as they turn over possession to the Indianapolis on the 23-yard mark. Michael Penix Jr is hunted down and fumbles the football.

An agile 22-yard rush from the Colts receiver sets Jonathan Taylor up to easily run for a touchdown on the following play. Kicker Michael Badgley skews the extra point wide. Oops.

TOUCHDOWN! Colts 6-7 Falcons 6:07, 1st quarter

Penix Jr puts the fumble behind him by leading Atlanta on a long drive for a touchdown. Drake London makes some substantial catches to put them in the red zone then the defense opens up for the running back to saunter on to the goal line through the middle of the defense for a 13-yard gain. He completes the drive for a short scoring run of his own. Advantage Atlanta.

Additional Tenth Week Matchups

And for afters, the full slate starting at 12pm CST/1pm EST/6pm GMT (with home teams first) is as follows:

  • (5-4) Carolina Panthers v New Orleans Saints (1-8)

  • (5-3) Bears v Giants (2-7)

  • (3-5) Houston Texans v Jacksonville Jaguars (5-3)

  • (2-7) Dolphins v Bills (6-2)

  • (4-4) Vikings v Ravens (3-5)

  • (1-7) Jets v Browns (2-6)

  • (6-2) Tampa Bay Buccaneers v New England Patriots (7-2)

What a feast. My pick for the best game is the Vikings and Ravens playing out the game of the day.
