'Living a Nightmare': Loved Ones of Missing Teens Desperately Seek Answers After Ski Resort Blaze
The loved ones of young people lost after a tragic inferno at a establishment in a Switzerland's alpine town are confronting an excruciating wait for answers and requesting clues about their children via social media.
The inferno devastated the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of the Valais region, in the early hours of January 1st. Confirmed footage show the roof structure catching alight as beverages with fireworks are held aloft.
Emergency services have indicated that it could take days if not weeks to identify the those who perished of the tragedy, which killed 40 people and injured another 119. Officials noted on the latest update that 113 of the injured have been accounted for, with efforts still underway to name the final individuals.
In the interim, relatives have been posting on online platforms to plead for information about their missing relatives who were present at the venue that fateful night.
Appeals for the Missing
The whereabouts of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are currently unknown, according to an appeal from his parent.
The resident of a town near the city, explained to a local newspaper that she had returned to Lausanne to see if he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the same in the capital, but could not find him.
"This is a living nightmare, an ordeal. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in intensive care. It's horrific," she told the paper.
She added that some of his peers had been discovered with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "It's indescribable; they endured a terrifying ordeal."
The Italian foreign ministry has indicated that a number of of its citizens are still unaccounted for.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage junior golfer, who hailed from Genoa but now living in the UAE.
The national sporting body has stated that he is dead, without directly referencing the fire, honoring a "talented young man who represented passion and authentic values."
His father, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around the new year. An representative has clarified that a official announcement of his death is awaited.
Further Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is also unaccounted for. His parent explained that he had been on holiday but had ventured out with friends and ended up at the venue.
"A companion said they escaped after the fire started and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he they were separated," she said, adding he had been wearing a identifiable gold chain.
